Team D.C. gave out seven college scholarships to LGBT student athletes at annual event

Team D.C., the umbrella LGBT sports organization, held its annual ‘Night of Champions’ awards ceremony on Saturday, April 15 at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Team D.C. gave out college scholarships to seven LGBT student athletes. Akil Patterson served as the keynote speaker.

A “No Kings” demonstration was held in Anacostia on Saturday to protest the Trump administration. Speakers at the rally included LGBTQ activist, Rayceen Pendarvis. Following the rally, demonstrators marched across the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.

The annual fantasy, comics and science fiction convention Awesome Con was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on March 13-15. Featured guests included openly gay actor, author and activist, George Takei. The convention included LGBTQ panels and a “Pride Alley” with LGBTQ-specific booths in the exhibit hall.
