Several events throughout D.C. marked the occasion

The nation’s capital marked World AIDS Day with a number of events on Thursday, beginning with a forum at George Washington University entitled “the Beginning of the End of AIDS” hosted by ONE and (RED). Speakers at the event included Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton as well as AIDS advocates Alicia Keys and Bono. The discussion was moderated by CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta. Later in the day, Whitman-Walker Health held the annual World AIDS Day candlelight vigil at Dupont Circle. Speakers at the vigil included Whitman-Walker executive director Don Blanchon and D.C. Mayor Vince Gray.

The sixth annual Fredericksburg Pride March was held in downtown Fredericksburg, Va. on Saturday, June 27. Stafford County Board of Supervisors Chair Deuntay Diggs led the march alongside Fredericksburg City Council Member Jannan W. Holmes. The Fredericksburg Pride Festival took place at Riverfront Park after the march. Bree Fram was the featured speaker.
