D.C. sees National Organization for Marriage rally, counter protest

By on August 15, 2010

The National Organization for Marriage brought its summer-long series of “One Man, One Woman” marriage rallies to the U.S. Capitol on Aug. 15. Speakers included Brian Brown, the group’s executive director; Bob King, a D.C. Advisory Neighborhood Commission member who opposes same-sex marriage; and Bishop Harry Jackson, who’s led efforts to overturn same-sex marriage in Washington. A counter protest, called the “Big Commit,” was simultaneously held in Freedom Plaza. Separately, a group of pro-gay protesters were seen at the National Organization for Marriage event.
