The Hyman S. and Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival starts Sunday beginning with a discussion with author Jay Michaelson at 11 a.m. at 1529 16th St., N.W.

Michaelson is a gay rights activist, religion scholar and the author of “God vs. Gay?” in which he argues that religious communities should favor gay rights because of religion, not in spite of it. He’s written two other books and 200 articles about the intersections of religion, sexuality and law.

The festival continues through Nov. 2. For more information, visit washingtondcjcc.org.
