Casey Cott, who portrays Kevin Keller on “Riverdale,” has been promoted to series regular, according to TVLine.

Keller is the first gay character in the Archie Comics franchise. The son of Riverdale’s town sheriff, Keller is Betty Cooper’s (Lili Reinhart) quick-witted best friend.

In the freshman season, Keller started a steamy romance with Southside Serpents gang member Joaquin DeSantos (Rob Raco). DeSantos skipped town after the fallout from the mysterious murder of high school student, Jason Blossom.

CW’s “Riverdale” gives a darker look at the seemingly perfect fictional town from the comic books. It includes the rest of the comic book gang including Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse).
