Brass Rail reunion at Remington’s Sunday
Remingtons (659 Pennsylvania Ave., S.E.) is having a Brass Rail reunion on Sunday at 8 p.m. with a cash bar, buffet and show.
The Brass Rail, opened in 1967 by Gus Papanicolas, Theo Christatakes, Greg Cahill and G.W. Glenn, went through many transformations, starting as a biker bar then turning into a country and western bar, before becoming a bar and nightclub that catered to the African-American gay community in 1973.
The Brass Rail was internationally known, famous for its drag shows and the Railettes, a popular in-house entertainment group. When the AIDS epidemic hit in the ‘80s, fundraising shows were held to help support various causes related to the epidemic.
The Brass Rail closed in 1996.
The Capital Pride Alliance presented the 2026 Capital Pride Honors at “The Audacity Brunch: In Full Fuchsia” at the Four Seasons Hotel Washington, D.C. on Sunday, June 7.
