Charity opera event kicks off season tonight

By on October 4, 2010

Hope Operas returns tonight with some of the area’s top actors and singers creating five new shows to reaise money for cancer, loss/grieving, disabilities and education charities.

The Hope Operas are five serialized shows running Monday nights for five weeks. The first is tonight at 8 at the Comedy Spot in Ballston Mall in Arlington. Each week, each show presents a 10- to 15-minute episode. At the end of the evening, audience members vote for their favorite serial and that company’s charity gets the most money.

This year’s shows are “Alcestis Dies and Lives” by Tom Mallan, “And We’re Clear” by Kerri Sheehan, “Cameltoe & Beavershot” by openly gay Chris Griffin (also Hope’s founder), “Capt. Freedom” by Andrew Baughman and “Unnatural” by Kathleen Akerley.

Hope Operas runs through Nov. 1. Tickets are $12 per show or $50 for all five. For more information, call 323-788-8970 or e-mail to lucrezia.blozia@gmail.com
