Bush twin makes pro-marriage video for HRC

By on February 2, 2011

NEW YORK — One of former president George Bush’s twin daughters says she supports gay marriage. Human Rights Campaign has released a video featuring the 29-year-old Barbara Bush, who calls herself “a New Yorker for marriage equality” and says people should be able to marry the person they love. The former president opposed same-sex marriage and endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment to outlaw it. Advocates say New York lawmakers may legalize gay marriage this year. HRC reps said they jumped on the chance to make the video after meeting Bush through mutual friends in New York who knew she was gay supportive and has many gay friends. Straight actors Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg have also made similar videos. Former First Lady Laura Bush expressed gay support — though not as unequivocally — during a book tour last year.

Oh HRC, how could you? GW Bush will be remembered as one of the most virulent anti-gay presidents in history. Remember the constitutional amendment and the Rove/Mehlman organized homophobia in the 2004 elections? This is her grab for 15-minutes of fame. What possible credibility, or value for that matter, does she have? Papa Bush will pul her into line just like he did with Laura.
