D.C. police make arrest in trans killing
By Staff reports on February 10, 2012
D.C. police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a transgender woman.
Gary Montgomery, 55, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Deoni Jones, who was stabbed in the head on Feb. 2 while waiting for a bus. It wasn’t immediately known if Montgomery would face hate crime charges.
This is a developing story. The Blade will have more as details emerge.

First, kudos to MPD’s Homicide Branch for a swift arrest in this case. This is a dedicated group of pros who care deeply about their profession and their craft. Too often, they don’t get the appreciation they should.
Thanks, as well, to MPD’s Special Liaison Division and MPD’s Press people for seeking the public’s assistance and for getting information about this case disseminated widely and promptly.

Gary Montgomery will walk after claiming he was groped by the victim prior to the attack. He is not the only criminal in this case. The other criminals will be the prosecutors who will let him go, allowing him to murder again.
