Progress on reorganizing Baltimore’s gay and lesbian center
The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central MD (GLCCB) is continuing with its planned reorganization in an effort to restore confidence in the 35-year-old institution. New bylaws will be released in the near future that provide a more specific template for management of the center and its operations. Strategic planning meetings have also been taking place.
A new Advisory Council was formed on Aug. 1 that, according to a document obtained by the Blade, “will advise on topics including but not limited to governance, management, finance, development, programming and outreach. Unlike the Board of Directors, the Advisory Council does not have authority to vote on matters, nor a legal fiduciary responsibility. Through this approach, the Board of Directors seeks to benefit from the diverse and rich knowledge, expertise and experiences of its members.”
The Center’s board also agreed to a partnership with AmeriCorps to bring in an intern to develop a community art project geared toward LGBT youth, according to board president Bud Beehler. Another individual, administered through the governor’s office, will serve as a volunteer coordinator.
