La. lawmaker calls for end to LGBT classes

By on August 30, 2012

BATON ROUGE — Louisiana congressman Jeff Landry has called for the University of Louisiana to cease offering classes in its LGBT studies minor in a letter to the school’s president.

Landry’s call for the university to cease offering LGBT history classes comes at a time when his primary against fellow incumbent Republican Charles Boustany has become more contentious. The effort is backed by the Louisiana Family Forum, which contends the university is not warning students of “the medical, physical, emotional and dangers of a lifestyle, which is counter to Louisiana values,” according to the Times-Picayune.

The university’s president, Joseph Savoie responded that allowing political pressure to dictate course selections could endanger the school’s accreditation.
