REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft’s founder, Bill Gates, has contributed $500,000 to the effort to preserve a law extending marriage rights to same-sex couples in Washington.

“Bill and Melinda Gates made a second contribution to the Referendum 74 campaign because they support marriage equality and believe the law is good for Washington State,” said a family spokesperson.

According to Washington United for Marriage, Gates had previously contributed $100,000.
