TORONTO — The City of Toronto is introducing its own city-branded condom in advance of next month’s World Pride celebrations, the Star, a Canadian news outlet, reports.
The condom’s design will be unveiled on June 4.
“Why are cities branding their own condoms? It’s simple. When condoms are more easily accessible and available, condom use tends to increase,” said a statement from Toronto Public Health on Tuesday.
Both New York City and Los Angeles have their own municipally branded condoms.
The condoms, which the health agency is calling “condomTO” will be available in bars, clubs, hotels, gyms and clinics across Toronto but concentrated in the Church-Wellesley neighborhood, the Star reports.
The announcement comes one day after downtown counselor Kristyn Wong-Tam and Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly invited gay couples from around the world to a mass wedding ceremony during the World Pride celebrations on June 26.
