LOS ANGELES — Chaz Bono claims a Chilean church has misused his name and likeness.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out to let me know that a church in Chile has been using my picture for hateful and discriminatory purposes,” wrote Bono in a Jan. 10 post to his Facebook page. “Trust me, it is very upsetting to see someone using my picture for such vile propaganda. My lawyers have jumped in and are doing everything they can to make sure I am not associated with such bigotry.”

Bono did not identify the church by name, but he thanked his fans in the South American country for “speaking out so strongly against this hatred over the last few days.”

Bono, whose mother is Cher, came out as trans in 2009.
