The Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs hosts a film screening of “I Am” and discussion session with the filmmaker Sonali Gulati at Goethe Institut (812 7th St., N.W.) on Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m.
“I Am” follows an Indian lesbian filmmaker who returns home to India to grieve the loss of her mother whom she never came out to. She also interviews the parents of gay and lesbian Indians to put into perspective what it means to be gay in India and the effect it has on families. David Do from the Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs will moderate the discussion session after the film.
