Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke at a D.C. fundraiser Monday night to an audience of mostly lesbian donors.

The event was held at the Women’s Democratic Club and organized by longtime Democratic Party activist Claire Lucas and her partner Judy Dlugacz. A Clinton aide confirmed to the Blade that tickets cost $2,700 and the hosts raised $27,000; about 120 guests attended. The ticket included a photo opportunity with Clinton, according to one attendee.

Clinton reiterated her commitment to full equality for the LGBT community and said she joined everyone in the room in hoping that the Supreme Court would rule that same-sex marriage is protected by the Constitution. She went on to say she understood that the fight doesn’t end there.

She urged attendees to work to ensure that Congress changes and added she will run a 50-state campaign.

Dlugacz and Lucas introduced Clinton. Lesbian actress Meredith Baxter flew in from California for the event.

“It was a strong show of support from our community for Hillary and she reciprocated with a commitment to work with us when she is president,” said Democratic Party activist and Blade columnist Peter Rosenstein, who attended the fundraiser. “As she said it is only after the election that the real work begins and she is ready to do that work with us.”

  • Thank you Hillary for showing your continued dedication to the LGBTQ community. It’s refreshing especially with all the mixed messages and veiled bigotry coming from the Republucan side.

  • Did you get your numbers from the Poltico article “is that while collecting relatively small checks from relatively small groups — the maximum is $2,700 per head and the average party attracts about 120 people — she is also harvesting something else: goodwill, in a business sense, among a cohort of early donors whose feeling of personal connection to Clinton and her campaign are expected to pay dividends down the line.

If 120 people went to this and paid $2700 each it should be more than $27000,

  • We all need to fundraise…but for Women and LBT Women that are REFUSED equality or bullied so severely they might not see out of both eyes today. Hate Crime Workplace Recovery Fund or Anti Bullying Fund is my Fundraiser. I cant just assume that those down losing homes owned to their life savings in Ponzi Schemes targeted for WHO they are is a reason to be ignored. Hillary Fundraiser groups are not very kind and so focused on Hillary money…they could care less of those violated of their daily bread and career equality. Imagine if you were in their shoes and care to GIVE those event producers some HOUSES for FUNDRAISERS as they are NOT in 5 Star Hotels with Billionaires donating funds….Hillary needs to donate here….and care if she wants women votes…especially lesbian/trans women votes.
