YouTuber and model Gigi Gorgeous was detained at a Dubai airport for being transgender, TMZ reports.
Gorgeous, 24, told TMZ she was stopped by an immigration officer who told her “I was told you are transgender. You cannot come into the country.”
According to TMZ, airport police claimed Gorgeous’s passport photo appears male and her passport describes her as male.
Gorgeous, born Gregory Lazzarato, publicly documented her transition from male to female on her YouTube channel Gigi Gorgeous. Gorgeous says her passport has been updated since her transition and shows her name as “Gigi Loren,” her legal name which she changed in 2014.
Gorgeous announced her release yesterday by posting a photo of her friend Nats Getty coming to get her.
“Yesterday was one of the scariest moments of my entire life and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. How you can be denied entry somewhere just because of who you are is seriously disgusting and also very scary. This further proves the need for CHANGE. I am now on my way to somewhere much more accepting,” the caption reads.
