Reel Affirmations promises packed weekend

Reel Affirmations hosts its international LGBT film festival at Gala Hispanic Theatre (3333 14th St., N.W.) Oct. 19-22.

The opening night film is “Signature Move” on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 7-9 p.m. The coming-of-age drama tells the story of a young woman who finds herself in a relationship with another woman while her mother tries to find her a husband. Other films showing throughout the weekend include “God’s Own Country,” “The Feels,” “Saturday Church” and “Apricot Groves,” among others. The closing night film will be “Freakshow” on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 5-7 p.m. “Freakshow” follows the young life of former club kid James St. James. It stars newcomer Alex Lawther, Abigail Breslin, Laverne Cox and Bette Midler.

On Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 p.m.-midnight there will be a filmmaker Q&A with reception following the screening of the girls and boys short films. There will be craft cocktails, food and music by DJ Mim. Tickets are $25.

Individual film screening tickets are $12. Threesome film pass is $30 and gives entry into three films with reserved seating. Six-pack film pass gives entry into six films with reserved seating. Festival passes for access to all 10 films range from $110-325.
