Baltimore has been named one of the top 20 cities for LGBT-friendly retirement in the United States in 2018, according to SeniorAdvice.com.

While retirees take into account the weather, health care options, cost of living and other factors, LGBT retirees must also determine if a city has an LGBT-friendly community.

Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Elders (SAGE) reports that there are an estimated three million LGBT people age 55 and over living in the United States with estimates expected to increase.

SeniorAdvice.com used its rating system, called SeniorScore, that judges cities based on their health and safety, recreation and leisure, finances and general quality of life. It also determined cities’ LGBT population, the existence of an LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, gay-friendly senior communities, weather, health care and more.

Baltimore is listed for its 3.9 percent LGBT population, annual gay pride parade, the GLBT Community Center of Baltimore, high-ranking hospitals and more than 250 senior living facilities.
