A new ad from Gillette has gone viral for showing the intimate bond between a father and his transgender son as the father instructs his son through his first shave.

The one minute ad, directed by Kim Gehrig, introduces Samson Brown, a transgender man from Toronto, who is about to shave his face for the first time.

“Growing up, I was always trying to figure out what kind of man I wanted to become,” Brown says. “I always knew I was different. I didn’t know there was a term for the type of person that I was.”

“I’m glad I’m at the point where I’m able to shave,” Brown adds.

The next clip shows Brown with a razor in his hand while his father carefully instructs him.

“Now don’t be scared,” Brown’s father says. “Shaving is about being confident.”

The video, posted on Gillette’s Facebook page, has received more than one million views.

Brown commented on the video writing, “Thank you so much Gillette for allowing me to share such an important moment in a man’s life with my father. I look forward to the great things you’re going to continue doing to encourage us all to be our best selves.”
