Dave Matthews Band won’t cancel North Carolina show; will donate proceeds
group is working with NC Needs You
Dave Matthews Band has decided to continue on with its scheduled May 27 show at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, N.C. despite the state’s transgender bathroom controversy.
In a statement posted on the band’s website, the group explained they plan to donate a portion of the show’s proceeds to organizations fighting North Carolina’s HB2 law including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Lambda Legal, ACLU of North Carolina, Equality NC and Time Out Youth.
The band selected the organizations with help from NC Needs You, an organization that urges musicians and performers to keep their North Carolina show dates to educate and raise awareness about the HB2 law.
While musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and Ringo Starr have chosen to cancel their North Carolina show dates, others like Mumford and Sons still performed but donated proceeds to Equality organizations.
