Gathering of science fiction and fantasy fans held over weekend

The D.C.-based convention for science fiction, fantasy and comic fans Awesome Con was held over the weekend at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This year included ‘Pride Alley:’ an area for LGBT-specific exhibitors sponsored by Geeks Out.

A “No Kings” demonstration was held in Anacostia on Saturday to protest the Trump administration. Speakers at the rally included LGBTQ activist, Rayceen Pendarvis. Following the rally, demonstrators marched across the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.

The annual fantasy, comics and science fiction convention Awesome Con was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on March 13-15. Featured guests included openly gay actor, author and activist, George Takei. The convention included LGBTQ panels and a “Pride Alley” with LGBTQ-specific booths in the exhibit hall.
