The D.C. chapter of the American Guild of Organists is hosting a free screening of the silent film classic “Metropolis” Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at National City Christian Church (5 Thomas Circle, NW) with live organ accompaniment by organist Peter Krasinski. National City is a gay-welcoming church.
Considered one of the most notable films of the silent era, the Fritz Lang classic will be presented with a live and improvised accompaniment on National City’s famed 7,000-rank Moller pipe organ. The film — which was used as an inspiration for Madonna’s famed “Express Yourself” video — tells an allegorical tale of masters enjoying leisure and luxury while workers toil away beneath the city. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Charles Miller, minister of music at the church, at 202-797-0103.
