Several local LGBT churches are hosting Transgender Day of Remembrance events Sunday.

Metropolitan Community Church of Washington (474 Ridge St., N.W.) is hosting a special Transgender Day of Remembrance Service today from 5 to 7 p.m. The First Unitarian Church of Baltimore (12 W. Franklin St.) will also be holding a special memorial service from 6 to 8 p.m.

The New Creation Baptist Church (11005 Dayton St.) in Wheaton will have an event from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia (10383 Democracy Lane) and the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond (1000 Blanton Ave.) will both be having services beginning at 7 p.m.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance, held in November to honor Rita Hester, is set aside to remember those who were killed based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.
