LOS ANGELES — Though he’s certainly not the first gay artist to have a number one album on the Billboard charts, Adam Lambert made history last week by being the first openly gay artist to top the list.

Lambert’s latest effort, ‘Trespassing,’ debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, coming off the success of the lead Bruno Mars penned single, “Never Close Our Eyes.” According to AfterElton.com, both George Michael and Elton John have also held the spot, but both did so only before coming out of the closet.
