OutServe-SLDN on Friday announced it has appointed Matt Thorn as the organization’s interim executive director.
Thorn, who is the former executive director of the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Baltimore, will assume the position immediately.
“From our work to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ to our current advocacy, support and services for LGBT service members and veterans, OutServe-SLDN has led the way in helping attain fairness and equality for LGBT service members and veterans,” said Thorn in a press release. “I am proud and excited to begin lending my part.”
Thorn joins OutServe-SLDN following a period of turmoil within the organization after its board ousted then-executive director Allyson Robinson in 2013.
Josh Seefried, a gay Air Force lieutenant who co-chaired the OutServe-SLDN Board of Directors at the time of Robinson’s termination, resigned amid heavy criticism over her ouster.
Court-martial proceedings against Seefried began last month at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland in connection with charges that he sexually assaulted a gay U.S. Marine in a New York hotel room in 2012.
