Organ virtuoso Carpenter returns

Organist Cameron Carpenter performs at the Kennedy Center (2700 F St., N.W.) on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec.5 at 8 p.m.

Carpenter will perform Samuel Barber’s “Toccata Festiva” on the Rubinstein Family Organ. The performance is part of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) show. Conductor Sarah Hicks will also perform “Billy the Kid” by Aaron Copland, “The Chairman Dances” by John Adams and “Dance Overture” by Paul Creston. Composer Mason Bates will also debut his piece “Mothership.” Following the Thursday, Dec. 3 performance there will be a free discussion with the artists and Nigel Boon, NSO director of artistic planning. After the Saturday, Dec. 5 performance, Carpenter will have a CD signing.
