Soloway, Transparent creator comes out
T.V. writer opens up about her sexuality
Jill Soloway, creator of Amazon series “Transparent,” came out in an interview for the New Yorker’s Dec. 14 issue.
Soloway revealed that she is dating poet Eileen Myles. Soloway described her relationship with Myles as an “instant connection.”She says their relationship also inspired a storyline in the upcoming second season of “Transparent.”
Ali, played by Gabby Hoffman, attends graduate school and ends up falling for an older female professor based on Myles.
In preparation for the story arc, the writers purchased Myles’ journals.
“I open it up, and the first thing it says is ‘Whoever falls in love with me is in trouble,’” Soloway says. “It was like she wrote to me without even knowing that I existed. “So I go on sort of a deep dive of who Eileen is, watching videos of her.”
Soloway is currently in the process of separating from her husband Bruce Gilbert, a music supervisor for the show.
