Drag queen Sushi, who frequently appears on CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live” with Anderson Cooper, married longterm partner Jeff Kucin on New Year’s Eve.

In Key West, Fla., Sushi is famously known for lowering herself in a giant replica of a high heel shoe every New Year’s Eve. Known as The Big Red Shoe Drop, the event is Key West’s own take on Times Square’s ball drop.

Sushi, whose real name is Gary Marion, married Kucin while sitting inside the shoe.

In a press release from the Florida Keys News Bureau, Marion says the couple chose to wait for same-sex marriage to be legal across the nation before getting married.

“My husband asked me to get married about five years ago, but I told him I would not go to any other state until it was legal all over America,” Marion says. “So I waited.”

Marion also expressed excitement over the nuptials.

“I can’t believe this was one of the last same-sex marriages of 2015, and I was honored to do it in the shoe,” Marion said. “And I’m so happy that we have the right to do this — especially for drag queens.”
