Caitlyn Jenner says she’s received more backlash for being a Republican than for being trans.

During a recent event at University of Pennsylvania Billy Penn reports the reality star was asked by a student why she wasn’t a Democrat.

“I have gotten more flak for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans,” Jenner replied.

Buzz Bissinger, who wrote Jenner’s Vanity Fair story and will collaborate with Jenner on her tell-all memoir, weighed in that transitioning doesn’t change a mindset.

“Just because you change gender doesn’t mean you change your core beliefs,” Bissinger added.

Jenner, who has spoken out about her conservative views on gay marriage, says she’s become more accepting.

“At first I was not for it… but as time has gone, I think, like a lot of people on this issue, have really changed their thinking here to, ‘I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness,’ you know? That’s not my job,” Jenner said.

The former Olympian also said fame didn’t factor into her decision to transition.

“I don’t need the money. So I don’t understand that claim,” Jenner said.

“No one transitions for financial gain. No way. You don’t do it unless you know deep down in your soul that it’s the right thing to do. If I can’t be honest with myself about what I’m doing, I’m no good for anything,” Jenner concluded.
