‘Heathers’ T.V. reboot will be LGBT-centric
the cult classic gets a modern makeover
Cult ’80s classic “Heathers” will be returning, this time to the small screen, in a television revival of the film with an LGBT-friendly angle.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show, airing on TV Land, will feature the popular Heathers group set in modern day with a couple LGBT-centric characters. Heather McNamara, played by Lisanne Falka in the film, will be a black lesbian lead and Heather Duke, originally played by Shannen Doherty, is gender-queer, whose real name will be Heath. Heather Chandler, played by Kim Walker in the film, will be also be flipping the script and be overweight.
The series will have the same plot as the film, revolving around Veronica Sawyer, played by Winona Ryder, and her rebellious boyfriend J.D., originally played by Christian Slater, navigating high school’s social standings.
Further details, including a cast list, have yet to be announced.
