“Ballast” by Georgette Kelly, one of three plays at this year’s Source Festival, explores the spiritual impact of gender.

Directed by Margot Manburg with dramaturgy by Aria Velz, the play stars seven actors as people in transgender/cisgender relationships. Zoe (Dallas Milholland) is a cisgender woman married to Grace (Jen Rabbitt Ring), a transgender woman who seeks religious acceptance. Teenager Savannah (Chelsea Thaler) is infatuated with Xavier (Tyasia Velines), who is “coping with becoming a man.”

The Source festival runs through July 3. Performances are at Source (1835 14th St., N.W.). Tickets are $10-32. For more information, visit sourcefestival.org.
