Ryan Murphy can add one more series to his evergrowing television portfolio.
According to Deadline, Netflix has picked up “The Politician,” starring Ben Platt (“Dear Evan Hansen”) in a musical series that “revolves around the politician aspirations of Platt’s Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbarian, and every season will revolve around a different political race his character is involved in.”
Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow are also in negotiations to star. Streisand is also in talks to be involved in the production and to direct. Paltrow is in negotiations to produce as well.
Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who worked with Murphy on “Glee” and “Scream Queens,” are also on board. The series will have a two-season deal with the streaming company.
This will be Platt’s first starring television role. He had a guest role on the current season of NBC’s “Will & Grace.”
Murphy is already developing the series “Nurse Ratched,” an origin story of the nurse from“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” starring Sarah Paulson, for a two-season deal.
