The 18th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance will be observed at the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington (474 Ridge St., N.W.) on Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded by transgender activist Gwendolyn Ann Smith in response to the murder of Rita Hester, a Massachusetts transgender woman whose case has still not been solved. Smith started Remembering Our Dead, a web project that memorialized people lost to anti-transgender violence. Since then, the day has evolved into remembrance events all over the world. ASL interpretation will be available. The space is also wheelchair accessible.
