Blade, DC Health to host town hall on monkeypox

Healthcare experts attend Monday event at Eaton DC

DC Health and the Washington Blade will host a town hall to discuss monkeypox on Monday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at Eaton DC.

Local medical and health officials will answer the audienceā€™s questions regarding the uptick in monkeypox cases in the area, implications for public health and what this means for D.C. residents. 

Featured panelists include N. Adam Brown, MD MBA, emergency physician, founder and principal, ABIG Health; Clover Barnes, Senior Deputy Director of HAHSTA; Amanda Cary, Sexual Health Manager at Whitman-Walker Health; and Alsean Bryant, pharmacist at AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Capital Pride to honor LGBTQ heroes

50 years of Pride in D.C. celebrated at Facebook Live event

The Capital Pride Alliance, in partnership with Team Rayceen Productions and the 50th anniversary subcommittee of Pride in the Nationā€™s Capital, will host ā€œAn Evening with LGBTQ+ Heroesā€ on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live. 

Capital Pride will celebrate 50 years of Pride in D.C. by highlighting the heroes who were recognized at the Capital Pride Honors annual event, formerly called the Heroes Gala. The event will feature some of these honorees who will share their history and thoughts on what Pride means.

Panelists include Earline Budd, legendary community advocate, co-founder of Transgender Health Empowerment and Capital Pride Superhero; June Crenshaw, Co-Chair, 2025 World Pride Steering Committee, Executive Director, Wanda Alston Foundation; Jose Gutierrez, founder of the Latino GLBT History Project, the DC Latino Pride and co-founder of the Rainbow History Project; and Peter Rosenstein, activist, journalist and author “Born this Gay: My Life of Activism, Politics, Travel, and Coming Out.”

DC Center brings regular voguing to D.C.

The D.C. Center for the LGBT Community will begin hosting ā€œVogue Sessionsā€ every Saturday beginning Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.

This is an all-ages vogue session drop-in hosted by DMV Kiki Nights, open to all ages, genders, and experience levels, and will be facilitated each-one-teach-one. No shade, no drama, no categories. 

DJ Tony Play starts spinning at 3 p.m. Enter through the U Street facing glass doors and let security know you are going to the DC Center.

ā€œCenter Aging Monthly Luncheon with Yoga and Bingo!ā€ will be at 12 p.m. at the DC Center for the LGBT Community. Lunch will be held in the climate-controlled atrium at the Reeves Center. Bingo will be hosted by our local Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.Ā For more details, email [email protected].Ā 

Go Gay DC will host ā€œLGBTQ+ Community Social in the Cityā€ at 7 p.m. at Courtyard by Marriott Washington at Dupont Circle. This event is ideal for making new friends, professional networking, idea-sharing, and community building. This event is free and more details are available on Eventbrite.

Women in their Twenties and Thirties will be at 8 p.m. on Zoom. This is a social discussion group for queer women in the D.C. area. For more details, visit WiTTā€™s closed Facebook group.

Trans Support Group will be at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Go Gay DC will host ā€œLGBTQ+ Community Brunchā€ at 11 a.m. at Freddieā€™s Beach Bar and Restaurant. This fun weekly event brings the DMV area LGBTQ community, including Allies, together for delicious food and conversation. Attendance is free and more details are available on Eventbrite.

Black Lesbian Support Group will be at 1 p.m. on Zoom. This is a peer-led support group devoted to the joys and challenges of being a Black lesbian.Ā For more details, email [email protected].Ā 

Sunday, September 29

Go Gay DC will host ā€œLGBTQ+ Dinnerā€ at 6 p.m. at Federico Ristorante Italiano. Guests are encouraged to come enjoy an evening of Italian-style dining and conversation with other LGBTQ folk. Attendance is free and more details are available on Eventbrite.

AfroCode DC will be at 4 p.m. at Decades DC. This event will be an experience of non-stop music, dancing, and good vibes and a crossover of genres and a fusion of cultures. Tickets cost $40 and can be purchased on Eventbrite.Ā 

Monday, September 30

Center Aging: Monday Coffee and Conversation will be at 10 a.m. on Zoom. This is a social hour for older LGBTQ adults. Guests are encouraged to bring a beverage of their choice. For more details, email [email protected].Ā 

Go Gay DC will host ā€œOut and About in Shirlington LGBTQ+ Community Happy Hourā€ at 6 p.m. at Palette 22. Get ready for another gathering of members of the LGBTQ community! About 30 LGBTQ folk are expected. Palette 22 offers modern street food spanning the globe served in a bustling art studio and gallery atmosphere. Tuesday, October 1

Pride on the Patio Events will host ā€œLGBTQ Social Mixerā€ at 5:30 p.m. at Showroom. Dress is casual, fancy, or comfortable. Guests are encouraged to bring their most authentic self to chat, laugh, and get a little crazy. Admission is free and more details are on Eventbrite.

Universal Pride Meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Zoom. This group seeks to support, educate, empower, and create change for people with disabilities. Email [email protected] for more details.Ā

Job Club will be at 6 p.m. on Zoom. The DC Centerā€™s Fresh Produce Program will be held all day at the DC Center for the LGBT Community. To be fairer with who is receiving boxes, the program is moving to a lottery system. People will be informed on Wednesday at 5 p.m. if they are picked to receive a produce box. No proof of residency or income is required.
