Freeform has greenlit “New People,” a transgender family drama from producer Joel Silver and writer/filmmaker Don Roos, Deadline reports.

The series is inspired by New York Times best-selling non-fiction book “Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family” by Amy Ellis Nutt. The series will tell the story of a transgender girl, her identical twin brother and her family.

Roos will write the script for the new show. His previous writing credits include “The Opposite Sex,” “Marley & Me” and “Happy Endings.” Silver’s latest production credit was “The Nice Guys” starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family,  aired “Becoming Us” last summer, a reality show about a family whose father comes out as transgender.
