SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois lawmakers have introduced a bill that would ban so-called “conversion therapy” for minors.

The Windy City Times reported state Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) and state Sen. William Delgado (D-Chicago) introduced identical bills in their respective legislative chambers.

Equality Illinois CEO Bernard Cherkasov is among the LGBT rights advocates who applauded Cassidy and Delgado for introducing their respective bills.

California and New Jersey ban “conversion therapy” to minors. Lawmakers in Maryland, Pennsylvania and other states have introduced similar measures.
