Just a few weeks after Laverne Cox’s legal drama “Doubt” was canceled by CBS, Cox has landed another T.V. role.

Deadline reports Cox has been tapped to star in the pilot for ABC’s buddy-cop comedy “The Trustee.” The actress stars as ex-con Amanda Jones who is completing her prison sentence by doing menial tasks for the police department. She’s paired with Eliza Radley (Meaghan Rath), a driven but stubborn detective.

The partners’ different personalities clash on assignments making the one-hour series the setting for plenty of comedic moments. Amanda Jones was not written with a transgender actress in mind but Cox landed the part during testing for different actresses.

Cox was the first transgender actress to play a transgender series regular on “Doubt.” The show was canceled due to low ratings after just two episodes.
