Cartoon Network UK has censored a same-sex scene from popular animated series ‘Steven Universe” for kids and parents to be “more comfortable.”

In one episode two characters from the show, Pearl and Rose Quartz, share a romantic dance during a musical sequence. In the U.K. edit, the scene cuts away to another character in the middle of the dance between the two.

“Steven Universe” creators have publicly acknowledged that the two characters are in a romantic relationship, a rare feat for a children’s show.

A representative for the network told Pink News, a U.K.-based LGBT news site, in a statement that they feel justified for editing the scene.

“Cartoon Network (in Europe) often shows amended versions of programs from US originals,” the representative told PinkNews. “The US broadcast system requires that shows are marked with a rating — in this case PG (parental guidance necessary). In the UK we have to ensure everything on air is suitable for kids of any age at any time.”

“We do feel that the slightly edited version is more comfortable for local kids and their parents,” the representative continued.
