Army Secretary Fanning given ‘Paving the Way’ award
The Capital Pride Alliance held its annual Pride Heroes reception at the Carnegie Library on Wednesday, June 1. The 2016 Pride Heroes are Bishop Allyson Abrams, Kathleen Matthews, Rayceen Pendarvis and Peter Rosenstein. The Engendered Spirits awardees are Julius Agers and Jeri Hughes.
Chelsea Bland and Michael Creason were given the The Bill Miles Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
The Bonnet Ball was held at JR.’s Bar (1519 17th St., N.W.) on Sunday.

A “No Kings” demonstration was held in Anacostia on Saturday to protest the Trump administration. Speakers at the rally included LGBTQ activist, Rayceen Pendarvis. Following the rally, demonstrators marched across the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.
