‘Call Me By Your Name’ pulled from Beijing International Film Festival
Sony Pictures Entertainment declined to explain the removal

“Call Me By Your Name” has been removed from the Beijing International Film Festival line up, the film’s distributor has confirmed.
Sony Pictures Entertainment told Reuters that the film will no longer be screened at the festival in April but declined to detail why.
While homosexuality is legal in China, it is not widely accepted. Last May, the lesbian dating app Reya was banned from China and last July an LGBT conference in Chengdu was canceled. In film, China censored a gay kiss between two cyborgs in the film “Alien: Covenant” last year.
The removal of “Call Me By Your Name” from the festival is the first censorship since China’s film industry moved under the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party’s Central Committee last week.
