Wilson Cruz helps COLAGE celebrate 20th anniversary
Wilson Cruz, best know for his roles as an openly gay teen on “My So Called Life” and Angel in the Broadway production of “Rent,” will emcee COLAGE’s 20th anniversary party on Sunday.
COLAGE, formerly “Children Of Lesbians And Gays Everywhere,” is a national organization which builds community and works toward social justice through “youth empowerment, leadership development, education and advocacy.” The organization now uses the phrase “people with a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer parent” but keeps its old acronym.
“Family Time,” a new short film by COLAGE that chronicles 20 years of the LGBT family movement and will debut online later this year, will be shown and copies of the new book “Let’s Get This Straight: The Ultimate Handbook for People with an LGBTQ Parent” will be unveiled.
Tina Fakhrid-Deen, author of “Let’s Get This Straight” and a former Chicago Chapter Leader, will be honored. Other honorees include Danielle Silber, who leads the New York City chapter, and her lesbian mom, Susan Silber.
Ryan LaLonde and Christopher Moody will also be honored. LaLonde led COLAGE Metro D.C. for ten years from 1998 to 2008 and served on the Board of Directors for five years. Moody has been a volunteer and supporter for 15 years. The party will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Mansion at 2020 O St., N.W. Tickets are $20 for youth and $50 for adults.
