Singer Battle brings jazz show to Kennedy Center

Soprano singer Kathleen Battle performs at the Kennedy Center (2700 F St., N.W.) Friday night at 8 p.m. with the D.C. premiere of her show “Something to Sing About.”

Battle made her opera debut in 1975 and since then has expanded into other genres including jazz. She has collaborated with jazz artists Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock. Battle performs the best in classic jazz and ragtime, with works by Duke Ellington and George Gershwin, in the show. She’ll be accompanied by jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut.
