U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy took part in a Pride parade in Tokyo on May 8, 2016.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy on Sunday took part in an LGBT Pride event in Tokyo.

Kennedy was among the diplomats who spoke during the Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade. She also posted a picture to her Twitter account that shows her meeting with mothers and speaking to them about LGBT children.

The first Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade took place in 2012.

Gay Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims was among those who spoke at a 2013 reception at Kennedy’s Tokyo residence that commemorated U.N. General Assembly’s ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Sunday’s parade took place three days after Human Rights Watch released a report that concludes the Japanese government has not done enough to curb anti-LGBT bullying in the country’s schools.
