GMCW ensembles to perform, Stonewall Dems honor Frank and more

Chorus’s smaller ensembles join forces

The Gay Men’s Chorus outreach ensembles, Potomac Fever and Rock Creek Singers, perform Saturday at the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church (1313 New York Ave., N.W.) at 5 and 8 p.m.

Selections from the ensembles will include songs like Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You,” George Michael’s “Faith” and classics like “Make Them Hear You” and “If We Only Had Love.”

These performances will also be recorded live for the groups’ next album.

Tickets are $35 and available online at gmcw.org.

Gay Democrats to honor Frank

The National Stonewall Democrats will honor Congressman Barney Frank at its Capital Champions reception on Tuesday at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters building (25 Louisiana Ave., N.W.) from 7 to 9 p.m.

Standard tickets are $100, host tickets are $250 and include two tickets and a listing in the program and student and non-profit tickets are $65.

Dancing in Dupont

In the Circle Productions presents “Dance in the Circle” on Saturday in the center of Dupont Circle Park from 3 to 9 p.m.

The event will feature performances and instruction in various styles of dance from dance companies across the D.C. area such as Bomb Squad Dancers, Calico Cloggers, DCypher Dance, Urban Artistry and more.

There will also be a sound system, DJ and dance floor set up in the park.

HRC hosts lecture on gender non-conforming children

Human Rights Campaign is kicking on its new speaker series “Equality Talks” on Monday with a conversation with Diane Ehrensaft, Ph.D., author of “Gender Born, Gender Made: Raising Healthy Gender-Nonconforming Children,” at the HRC building (1640 Rhode Island Ave., N.W.) at 6 p.m.

Ehrensaft, a developmental and clinical psychologist and director of mental health at the newly formed Child and Adolescent Center in the San Francisco Bay Area, will use clinical experiences and personal experiences as a mother of a gender-nonconforming child to present her theories of gender and advice for parents.

Blade Summer Kickoff Party returns to Rehoboth

Politicians slated to speak at annual Blue Moon party

The Washington Blade’s 17th annual Summer Kickoff Party returns Friday, May 17, 5-7 p.m. at the Blue Moon (35 Baltimore Ave.) in Rehoboth Beach, Del. 

It’s an exciting election year in Delaware, which is poised to elect its first Black woman senator (Lisa Blunt Rochester) and the nation’s first transgender member of Congress (Sarah McBride).

McBride is scheduled to speak at the party along with several politicos from the area. With the retirement of longtime state Rep. Peter C. Schwartzkopf, a staunch LGBTQ ally, three strong contenders are running to replace him. All three — Marty Rendon, Kathy McGuiness, and Claire Snyder-Hall — are slated to speak at the party. A representative from Blunt Rochester’s campaign is scheduled to speak, along with Kim Leisey, the new executive director of CAMP Rehoboth. 

Tax-deductible tickets are $20 and available on Eventbrite or via the Blade’s Facebook page. The party is sponsored by Justin Noble of Sotheby’s, The Avenue Inn & Spa, and Blue Moon.

Andy Cohen coming to D.C.

‘Real Housewives’ producer to return to Sixth & I

Andy Cohen, executive producer of “The Real Housewives” franchise and host of “Watch What Happens Live,” will return to Sixth & I on Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.

This event will be his fifth appearance at the venue to celebrate the paperback release of his New York Times bestselling memoir, “The Daddy Diaries,” talk about the latest Housewives happenings, and answer audience questions about everyone’s favorite Bravolebrities.

Cohen will be in conversation with Rep. Robert Garcia, who represents California and is the first LGBTQ immigrant to win a congressional seat. Rep. Garcia has also been known to quote from “The Real Housewives” in congressional hearings.
