Olivia opens
Olivia & the Mates play Birchmere Music Hall

Olivia & the Mates, fronted by lesbian singer-songwriter Olivia Mancini, perform on Aug. 23 with Matthew Sweet at the Birchmere (3701 Mt. Vernon Ave., Alexandria, Va.) at 7:30 p.m.
The performer has been touring the U.S. and Europe for 10 years as a solo artist and with her two bands, The Mates and Astra Via. Her music has been featured on television series like “Gossip Girl,” “ER” and “Entourage.”
Next week’s show at the Birchmere will feature tracks from a new, unreleased EP by Olivia and The Mates. Matthew Sweet, who is headlining the show, is an alternative rock musician from Athens, Ga. His music has been featured in many films and T.V. shows, including “Austin Powers,” “Crossroads” and “Scrubs.”

Ashley Biden accepts award for Beau Biden at annual Rehoboth fundraiser
The 19th annual Blade Foundation Summer Kickoff Party was held on Friday, May 15 at Diego’s in Rehoboth Beach, Del. An award presentation was held for former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. Ashley Biden accepted the award on her brother’s behalf and gave remarks. Other speakers included Delaware state Rep. Claire Snyder-Hall, CAMP Rehoboth Executive Director Dr. Robin Brennan and Washington Blade Editor Kevin Naff. The event was a fundraiser for the Steve Elkins Memorial Fellowship in Journalism.
