The D.C. Council on Tuesday, May 7, is scheduled to present a resolution honoring Black Lesbian and Gay Pride Day, Inc., the group organizing the 23rd Annual D.C. Black Pride Celebration set to take place May 24 – May 27, according to a statement from Council member Anita Bonds (D-At-Large).

Bonds will present the resolution to members of the Black Pride board on behalf of her Council colleagues at 10 a.m. during the start of the Council’s May 7 session at the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., the statement says.

The resolution recognizes the Black Pride leadership “for maintaining one of the oldest and largest Black Pride celebrations in the world and honors the event’s mission to foster ‘awareness of and pride in the diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender African-American community,’” Bonds’ office said.

Among the Black Pride board members invited to attend are Earl Fowlkes Jr., Andrea Woody-Macko, Derrick Dunning, June Spence, Kenneth Hopson, Kenya Hutton, Marc Morgan, Lauren Morris, Leandrea Gilliam, and Robert “Harold” Dinkins.
